Between Atoms and The Stars....
Steve Slater is a freelance producer and re-emerging artist. He was senior producer at the acclaimed International arts venue Tramway in Glasgow, with responsibility to source and lead on projects for the performance programme; effectively creating and maintaining Tramway’s artistic vision for 14 years. A fine arts graduate from the College of Art in Cardiff and an artist of performance and film/installation, Steve has worked in places such as the Third Eye Centre in Glasgow and Zap Club in Brighton.
As a direct result of his participation in the British Council’s ‘Cultural Leadership International’ programme, Steve formed his own company TACTICAL A.U. in 2009 - which aims to develop, support and advance the artistic ambitions of artists both here in the UK and abroad through a combination of Creative Production, Consultation, Dramaturgy, and ‘hands on involvement’.
One of the first major projects undertaken by Tactical A.U. was to produce the IETM Plenary Meeting in Glasgow in November 2010. Bringing this renowned performing arts meeting to the city provided enormous scope for the international development of Scottish based companies and their work.
Steve’s goal is to represent and facilitate some of Scotland’s most promising and creatively challenging artists and companies, providing opportunities for international dialogue and collaboration. Steve will also continue to develop projects with UK and International partners, hopefully continuing to find interesting and stimulating situations to create moments of “unforgettable emotional and intellectual experience” for audiences.
In many ways this strategy is a continuation of his programme work at Tramway - striving at all times to develop, educate and surprise - by opening up new artistic windows of experience for people.
Since 2012, Steve has ‘re-emerged’ as an artist - presenting a lecture demonstration of archived StanSlat work at Tate Britain in October 2012 . A new work “Between Atoms and The Stars” at Arches Live in September 2013 and two presentations of Black Hole () at Buzzcut in Glasgow and MPA-B, Berlin in April and May 2014 respectivly, followed by the first presentation of ASSEMBLY at SPILL FESTIVAL Ipswich in November.
From October 2016 until recently, Steve held the post of Director at Citymoves Dance Agency in Aberdeen, and prior to this worked at Catalyst Dance Management as part of Dance Base in Edinburgh and as Portfolio Manager for Bursaries and Dance at Creative Scotland and is a freelance producer and artist.
